The 4: Overrated Actors/Actresses
With Side Effects opening this weekend, the annual "Channing Tatum is overrated" chatter has begun. He's "overrated," "just a pretty boy" and" not a great actor." I disagree with all three of those assumptions. He stole the show in 21 Jump Street, he can carry a movie on his own (The Vow and Magic Mike) and showed his acting chops working with the great Steven Soderbergh.
I hate to break it to all those jealous guys out there, your girlfriends and wives are right. Channing Tatum is a star. But this got me thinking. Who's overrated in Hollywood? Which actors or actresses are way over hyped? So I compiled my list of "The 4" Tinseltown stars who are not as great as advertised. So let's get to the list in order and I'm sure #4 will start a great debate.
4. Robert De Niro

"Hey, what's a matter with you?" I can imagine that's what everyone is saying in their best Robert De Niro impersonation with the addition of Bobby D to this list. How can a guy with two Oscar wins and another 4 nominations under his belt be overrated. Sounds crazy right? But hear me out. For every great movie De Niro does, he follows them up with a bunch of flops. Little Fockers, Red Lights, Stardust, The Mission, We're No Angels, The Fan and the worst of all The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle. That is just a modest list of the poor performances De Niro has. Until this year's nomination for Silver Linings Playbook, De Niro hadn't been nominated for an Oscar in over 20 years and hasn't won an Oscar since 1981 for Raging Bull. I don't want people to think I dislike De Niro. The truth is I love some of De Niro's roles, but if we're going to hate on Ben Affleck for a few bad choices. The same standard should be held to De Niro.

3. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson had her break out role in Almost Famous for playing the band aid Penny Lane. She was nominated for an Oscar, but since then she has made a slew of terrible rom-coms. How to Loose a Guy In 10 Days, Fool's Gold and worst of all Bride Wars. Plus Hudson's best role to date was playing a groupie. Not much of a stretch considering she married two musicians so far in her life. Also she can't carry a candle to her mother Goldie Hawn, who played the ditzy blonde with charm in many of her roles. If anything Hudson has regressed in her acting abilities.

2. Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen was never the actor his father Martin Sheen was, but he still managed to carve out a very profitable career in Hollywood. He's been in some great movies along the way including Platoon, Wall Street, Major League and Red Dawn. Yet in all those movies, Charlie was the weak link. The other problem is all the headaches that come along with the Charlie Sheen brand. Whether it's drugs, adult film stars or on-set blow ups. Charlie has a cargo hull full of baggage which will always make the actor overrated, even with the ratings numbers he brings in. That reminds me, Two and a Half Men airs twice a night at 7pm and 10pm on CW44.

1. Angelina Jolie

Absolutely, without a doubt, even with her Oscar. Brad Pitt's baby momma is overrated as an actress. Angelina Jolie won the Oscar for her role in Girl Interrupted playing a mental patient. Jolie playing a crazy person. Not much of a stretch for a woman who made out with her brother and carried a vile of blood around her neck. Plus her career is littered with duds such as Tomb Raider, The Tourist, Original Sin and the ridiculous Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I know she does great humanitarian work around the world, but as far as acting goes she doesn't live up to the hype and is known more for her tabloid image.
