Lights Camera Pittsburgh Movie Tours Taking Off

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh has been featured in lots of movies over the years, but recently it seems filmmakers cant get enough of our scenery.

Now you can celebrate the "Hollywood of the East" thanks to the Pittsburgh Transportation Group, which has put together a sightseeing tour of various filming locations.

Dawn Keezer, Director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, was on the KDKA Afternoon News with Bill Rehkopf to talk about the upcoming tour.

"We are so excited about this," Keezer said. "We have talked about it for almost 20 years now at the film office and thanks to the Pittsburgh Transportation Group, who finally gave us the tools to get this done, it's finally happening. It's going to kick off May 31 and we finally have enough films. We have always been making movies, since back in 1914, but with the success of the film tax credit, we have had a lot of real recognizable projects."

Some of the sights you will see on the two-and-a-half-hour tour include places in Mt. Washington, the South Side, North Side and Station Square. It'll pack in a lot of movies.

And if visiting famous movie filming locations isn't what you're looking for, the group also has some other tours throughout the city.

"They ( the Pittsburgh Transportation Group) are doing a lot of different tours this summer from what I understand," Keezer said. "There is a food tour, there's a beer tour, there is going to be lots of really fun things to do. The film tour, of course, will be the best one."

Keezer also says this summer promises to be one of the busiest for the Pittsburgh movie scene, although she can't share many details just yet.

You can purchase tickets for the tour, starting at $40 at pghtoursandmore.net.
