'iZombie' Creator Rob Thomas Amused By Unofficial Hot Sauce

By George Fox @GeorgeJFox

When your taste buds are dead -- very spicy food is all you crave. At least that's what's happening to Liv Moore, the lead character in "iZombie".

The CW series creator Rob Thomas took notice Tuesday and mentioned it on his Twitter account. The super-hot sauce is now available online for $12 -- although it appears some licensing questions remain.

For the premiere of the show back in March, the CW affiliate WCCW in Charlotte hosted a contest for "iZombie" themed prize packs. Heat is to the zombie diet so the station teamed up with Pucker Butt Pepper Company in Fort Mill and founder Smokin' Ed Currie to create a hot sauce to be the perfect addition to any undead fare.

"If a zombie needs something to taste flavor with? This the sauce to do it," said Currie in a video created for the launch.

It's made with Ed's own variety of peppers called the Carolina Reaper. In the 1.5 - 2.2 million Scoville scale range, they are the hottest pepper known to man. Zombiegift.com describes them as "several hundred times hotter than a jalapeno" and reviewed the sauce at 4.75 out of 5.

For a Carolina Reaper pepper sauce Bill Moore's Hot and Spicy Review gives it a 9 out of 10 in terms of flavor.

If you're a fan of hot sauce, "iZombie" or just have $12 burning a hole in your pocket -- the sauce looks like a solid buy.
