Sand City Spectacular is coming to Pittsburgh July 2-10th!
Pittsburgh is set to host a stunning celebration in sand this summer! Beginning July 2, ten of the top sand sculptors in the world will arrive in Schenley Plaza in Oakland to compete in the 'Sand City Spectacular International Master Sand Sculpting Championship'. Featuring acclaimed artists from seven different countries, each team receives 40 tons of sand to turn ordinary sand into magnificent and colossal works of art. They will be celebrating Pittsburgh's 200-year history, and will model their creations after our Steel City's milestones!
Each will compete for a $14,000 total purse, with awards ranging from $8,000 "Best of Show" honors to a "People's Choice" title as voted on by spectators.
Although the July 2 date officially marks the start of the competition, it ends with a weekend festival July 9-10 of food, music and special attractions, including the KDKA - CBS Sand Play Land, for one giant weekend of #sandsational fun!
